Bring out the GIMP!!

February 24 2012

Or the PhotoShop if your not into open source.newkee's heavily doctored image inspired me to be silly. I love those radioactive lips! It works a treat with that user name too.So i wheeled out the Gimp (GNU Image Manipulation Program) and reinvented my self. sort of.. assuming the mods let this post and the image past. it will all make sense.

I love Newkee's new image. Those delicious sugar coated lips make me lick my chops. :p. Your little red fire engine though, I kind of had a different idea of what that looked like. :)) Hugs Stalky

Like all complex apps.Go to windows/docable-dialogs/layers. you will see a list of all the layers. you can only edit the highlighted layer. the top layer hides the 2nd, which hides the 3rd and so on.. so if it's one of the lower ones you have highlighted, you may not see what you are drawing etc. If a layer is smaller (or has some transparency) than the one below you'll be able to see past it down the stack of layers.you can also MERGE a layer with the one directly below it to reduce the number of layers and simplify things. layers are really powerful when you get your head around them. It took me a while to work out why i could not see stuff i was doing sometimes..Hope that helps and was not too boring @Peachy Good to see you again too.@Stalky totaly agree.

hah LRE! I was actually admiring your image last night and thinking how did he do that? I was inspired by a similar image and the images of another lady on here (her images are sensational btw, nothing like my amateur attempt!) I was trying to do spot colour, black and white, with just eyes and lips in colour, and kind of failed lolWas done mainly in PE Elements with layers and lots of burning and a bit of dodging :PWas fun though, using honey as lip gloss/glue and watch those little hundred and thousand suckers, they slide all over the place and putting individual ones on in gaps is obviously something that takes much practice... just remember to wash the honey off your fingers before taking the photo. Must admit, my bathroom sink was a pretty rainbow mess afterwards. ;p

my saggy atempt took a few minutes. now i know how you did yours i'm well impressed!! I've been playing with GIMP for some years now and have a reasonable handle on much of it's basic bits. so cutting out and pasting my mug onto a stock image was not too hard for me..you on the other hand.. very nice work.
