Balm for the Spirit, Salve for the Soul

January 25 2018

What do you guys do to destress or to perk yourself up during rough times? I wish I could say "Soak in a fragrant bubble bath!" ... But I have no bath tub! 😜 "Eat myself silly."... But no binge-eating for me. "F**k till my eyes pop out!" ... But... anyway... So when it feels like you habe derailed, what do you indulge in to put the spring back into your step? 😉

Today, I went and sat outside for a bit with a drink, hubby and the dog & cat! He's an indoor beast, so we have to keep a sharp eye on him because he tries to jump over to the front yard. I worked out recently it's because he wants a chew on grass, so I've been grabbing it for him. There was a light breeze today, so a lot cooler than it has been lately, today is the first day we haven't had the fan on for days. Such a relief. I hope your weather improves in a hurry, Peachy

To destress during rough times, no doubt I would: - Go and watch an action or horror movie at the cinema, depends on what’s showing at the time 😛 - Go eat seafood! Like pigging out at a seafood buffet kind of eating seafood lol - Go for a swim at one of my local pools - Go for a drive with all windows down and let the wind clear my head up for me. - Go and talk to one of my besties who I can trust; or - Simply go to the shopping centre to walk around purposelessly just to let myself breathe calmly again. Before my mother got ill, I would also go travelling, either to interstates or to overseas, I would go somewhere to unwind, revive and survive 😄 However, travel is off the list for now. - Posted from rhpmobile

it really is eat myself silly. The only things i like more is sleep, which i can never manage while stressed, or have sex, which requires someone to have sex with. Something deep fried or red meat with all the fatty bits for preference.

Exercise is a genuine relaxant for me, so I'll go for a bike ride. I also think most people get stuck in pretty much the same day-in day-out routine, so if I have had a hard time at work (usually) I will do something different - go for some dinner and a movie or go for a good drive and listen to some podcasts or something. Get out of the house in some way or another, works a treat for me every time.

I used to go ten pin bowling, but I screwed up my hand the last time I did "angry" bieling, and it hasn't quite recovered.. for a while I'd go chill at a chicky mates place. It was so calming and peaceful, we'd just play old school games like frogger and Pac man.. and annoy each other. But sadly that came to a rather abrupt and weird end.. story for another day.. Now I just either go for a drive with the music cranked or chill at home with a few drinks and the music cranked... Lol - Posted from rhpmobile

Sweetgem, I like to walk around in shopping malls and the city too! The only unfortunate thing is, I'm like a mynah - I love "collecting" beautiful stuff. 😆 So the shops are pretty much a danger zone for my purse. 😜 Now, with online shopping, even the home is a danger zone! 🤣 So, I suppose evidently, retail therapy is my thang! 😜😁 I love having a good long chat on the phone or via Whatsapp with my close friends. Sometimes we'll meet for a lovely meal or for coffee or Mövenpick ice cream. 😋😄 Zone out in front of the TV. I love binge watching TV series. 😛 English, Asian, French, Denmark... what great choices we have these days! Go for walks in the parks or along the Yarra River. Occasionally go for walks at the beach. Go on short hotel staycations. Organise and declutter my home. Admire my collection of crystals. Meditate. Play with my cards or with my cat. Groom my cat. Read labels whilst grocery shopping or toiletries shopping. 😛 Read. Dance around the house.

Sometimes I eat (which is bad). Take the dog down to the beach. I have an art project that I am starting so I can zone out. Have a long bubble bath. Bake (which is bad) Clean my house from top to bottom Listen to music

I knew I should have been more precise... It's okay, I let him go to work... Hehe... Inspirit, laughter is the best medicine. I know my humour is quirky as fuck (not duck auto correct), but the the way of the world has to be laughed at sometimes. I love irony. 🍑y

Changes to the routine are great! I say that but if I've had a particularly stressful workday, I just want to get takeaway dinner / order UberEats, crawl home, zone out watching DVDs, and then head to bed early. Gotta recharge the batteries before another crazy workday tomorrow. 😛

Your dog might be crook, reckon it's worth calling the vet, we've had dogs in our family and whenever one of them started eating grass, mum said the dogs were sick and keep an eye on them. Dogs have a much higher pain threshold than us, so incomparable as to normal as a vet explained to me once. Had a mate leave his dog with us, and they were best mates, went everywhere together, he just could not take him to the new job. We noticed the dog was a little lazy and over a couple days got real sick, eating grass, we took him to the vet and he soon told us the dog needed to be put down, it had terminal cancer riddled with it. Found it hard to fathom how fast from normal healthy dog to terminal. Vet said dogs can cope with much more pain than we can and it's common to see them as it were in that instance. I don't want to have you freak out, because your dog might have a cold even. Just we had dogs all our life and one was very sick. Mado Mado Tara xx

Beg your pardon, Peachy's dog is eating grass. I think the feeling comes from helping someone in need that truly appreciates 'you turned up' the bond, everything about it, is a really lifting experience in any moments, helps to feel good about yourself, so when things get tough, have a look around and see someone in the dumps, baaamm mates Mates, PurePeony Mado Mado Tara xx

I'll have to listen to that inner voice more that wondered if I should specify. Anyway, to continue my lil journey, today we decided to make a thing of that time out the back for us all. The (bl**dy) cat will forever after be restrained (you can see why I made that clear cant you :-D) if he is ever allowed out again after he got hold of a grasshopper this arvo. Not good for either of them. And then... Even after a temporary banishment inside, and given a second chance outside, he made it around the side, jumped the fence and dashed across the road. It's a busy road. Thanks Peony for my current mindfulness to include rewarding, relaxing time into our day. It is not something I'm all that good at. We listened to the radio too, and because I installed the app Shazam on my the mobile I finally have, I could sit there and find out which songs they were so I could listen to them again later. I am like a child with excitement sometimes. We didn't even have a TV or phone at home when I was a kid. And I love music. Hubby found me a Happy Music channel last night too, that is another thing that makes me smile. Peachy

Woohoo! I just made up a new word in the Star Signs thread but love it so much, I'll share it here too - Moon Tanning! 🤣 That's soaking in the power of the upcoming Super Blue Blood Moon! 😍 I'm picking which crystals to lay under the moon light for a moon tan and a charge. Wish I could lay myself under the Full Moon, in a Selenite slab, and POW!!! Supercharge myself! 🤣 The Moon shall be 72% full tonight. 4 days, 15 hrs away from a spectacular Super Blue Blood Moon! 😃😍

I try to move on these days rather than holding on to negative beliefs when someone has apologised to me and tried generally to be 'nice' after a disagreement of opinion. An empath would know I was feeling that way and not continue attacking, in my opinion. Peachy

Yet another one that I've forgotten - aromatherapy! I love the new quiet and clean ultrasound diffusers. It's not just an olfactory therapy, it's also a mesmerising visual therapy if you've got those diffusers with colour- changing lights. 😃 I enjoy selecting and mixing the essential oils that go into it. Aaaahhh... so soothing! 😃

But do have a medicine chest of lavender, tea tree and eucalyptus. I do have a few Scentsy warmers (cat broke the colour change one), not the same experience because it doesn't use pure essential oils but enjoyable for the variety. Enjoy, Peachy

De stress, I love to explore unknown areas and tracks, solo. I can ride at my own pace, stop when I want or not. Nothing like the open road to reinvigorate my zest. I’m sans bike the moment for financial reasons and it really gets to me. I do have a mates bike in the shed as I have been fixing the thing for him, but only ride that close to home. Gosh darn I want another bike! And there you thought I’d say skiing😉 BB - Posted from rhpmobile

You got me chewing my nails, waiting for the magical word... and there it is! 🤣 OK, I can breathe again. 🤣 Sorry to hear about the bike. I really hope you'll be able to get a new one soon, especially since you derive much pleasure from your bike rides.

Please don’t hold your breath on my account, I might have to fly down to Melbourne and give you mouth to mouth. Oh, wait a sec 🤔 I love skiing, don’t get me wrong, but the bike is for ME! One ride I particular, approx 600kms in the forest, navigating by my GPS, I stumbled on a disused open cut quarry full of turquoise water. Very few would have seen this and I spent 1/2hr skimming rocks with a few cows for company. I went home happy that day 😍 BB - Posted from rhpmobile

Things that don't necessarily work are the comfort foods, normally cookies and cream ice cream :) A walk with the dog though does help also. (And conveniently helps work off the above).
