why my facebook profile is both as private as it can get and limited to people I see on a daily basis

Nothing is truly private. I made a suggestion on yahoo answers for a donation to a cause. A day later someone from yahoo was on my personal phone asking to speak to gazpacho to discuss the whole idea. Now, the email address I had used was a new one I opened from yahoo... and the only real connection to me was via my ip address, which was not static, issued by my ISP, who was at the time, Telstra. How did yahoo get my number? Well obviously they can. Hugs Stalky

Quoting 'mikle' A few years ago now I switched on to the idea that once its out there... its out there. Since limited my online activity. Abandoned filling out profiles on msn and yahoo, dont even use yahoo any more. Face book pffft what a load of crap why would you bother anyway, go outside and kick a ball or something usefull. I like RHP for the fact when I do a search engine look for myself on it... I get no strikes. I like my anonyminity. I also dont use the friends feature on RHP, this way I dont get people compairing notes...lol Only one last bug bear that shits me. Those feel good emails mostly women pass around with cute pics of animals. I dont object to receiving them I object to they forwarded to everyone on their email list including every one thereby handing my email address out to the spammers who I am sure made the stupid things in the first place to collect addresses to send their crap to. Grrrr I've had the same email address for 15 years now for one of my business addresses, and there's a ton of stuff out there which is why I keep the RHP stuff seperate. All teh points you highlight are very valid indeed mate. Wayne

I'm not sure about searching for your self and getting no hits.....i tried googling my profile name and or state and/or RHP and found myself. Only a problem I guess if your profile name on RHP is one that friends know you by or that you use commonly( like a nickname). For people who use the same profile name or part of one that is ioncluded in an email addy......It makes you very "findable"

here is a little thing you guys can do.. 1) look closely at the adverts you get coming up on FACBOOK and ALl other social sites: 2) Change your details on that site, to something quite different (Eg: age and status) 3) behold the different adverts that NOW come to your profiles. does anyone NOT wonder why Google is a billion dollar company? Facebook? Hotmail? yahoo? Um.. they make their money because they TARGET specific markets for advertisers.. LIKE it has NEVER been done before in the history of man :) over 10,000 tweets and postings and information are posted on social sites EVERY second, or EVERY day :) including THIS posting is databased for targeting advertising.. If you dont like it, turn your computer off, and NEVER connect it to a network again... this will LIMIT your exposure to the exploitation :) Google for example knows just about everything about your network system, and therefore you person details when they scan your street for photos.. Remember when you bought your phone and/or you phone service and you had to add all your details? Guess what.. that is linked to an ENTIRE and comprehensive database on you.. Remember Labours "Australian ID card?" They didnt want to INVENT it.. they wanted to make it LEGAL... it was around long before then gathering your information :) *chuckles* enjoy your privacy folks :)

So I edited our email 'contact list' to start with, it was long overdue lol. Then I changed our contact email altogether lol. Instructions below... Go to Account... click on account settings, just click the "change" link next to Email. THEN Select any other email address you have listed on your account and click the "Change Contact Email" button to finish. OR If you would like to add another email address to your account, just enter that new address in the open field next to "New Email." Once you confirm the address, you can go back and set it as your contact email. Thanks for the heads up Wayne ;-)Hugs... Mrs P'

I don't believe that Labour is using the net or our phones as ID cards...rubbish!! They are using licences as ID cards as every prick seems to bloody have one whether they can drive or not lol. xFunlovingx

Whatever email address you use to set up your FB account, is then used by FB to link you with whatever contacts you have made on that email addy. If you have ever chatted on msn and then deleted a contact, if that contact keeps your details, then they can also track you down on FB. So probably best to use one email address for adult stuff and a different one for FB.

I too have a false facebook account set up with the whole fake email and msn thing going. It is more for protection than anywthing else. I dont need anyone finding me or my kids. I also found the same thing happening and It ahd nothing to do wqith email addresses. I finally figured it out that facebook was suggesting people from accounts that had been accessed from the SAME computer. I now access my real facebook accont from my PC and my other facebook account from my laptop. I am lucky enough to be in a osition to do this and the problem has ceased.

How do I prevent myself from appearing in Suggestions? The Suggestions feature was built to connect you with people or Pages...The Suggestions feature was built to connect you with people or Pages on Facebook that you are likely to know. If you don't want to appear in this box for everyone on Facebook, you will need to restrict your privacy settings. To do so, follow these steps: 1. Choose the "Privacy Settings" option in the Account drop-down menu at the top of any Facebook page. 2. Select "View settings" in the "Basic Directory Information" section. 3. Change the setting for "Send me friend requests" to "Friends of Friends"I was able to restrict this to 'friends of friends' instead of everyone, the only 2 choices available. How can I control who can find me in Facebook search?By default, your privacy settings allow everyone to find you in a search. However, when people click on your search listing, they won’t be able to see all of the information in your profile. They will always be able to view your name, gender, profile picture, and networks. Any additional information that they can view when they click on your search listing is determined by your privacy settings. You can control who can find you in a search by restricting your privacy settings through the Privacy Settings page. Select the "View settings" link in the "Basic Directory Information" section. From there, you can restrict who can search for you on Facebook. You can also control how people can contact you once they've found you. This can be set to everyone, friends of friends and friends only.Hugs... Mrs P'
