A poem

August 18 2010

Today I noticed someone quote the bible ! So I thought as nothing is any longer sacred and in an effort to lift the souls of RHP to a higher level. I have popped this poem in for you all ! I've oft been told by learned friars,That wishing and the crime are one,And Heaven punishes desiresAs much as if the deed were done.If wishing damns us, you and IAre damned to all our heart's content;Come, then, at least we may enjoySome pleasure for our punishment! By Thomas Moore Written between 1779 and 1852 ........ A little cheeky for his time I do think Mr Moore was ! Brae ........ the reciter

The regency period had it's lusty moments and it seems Mr Moore was having his (and enjoying it too, one hopes). That poem seems a little racy but it fits in with the social aspects of the time rather well. Makes me wonder where I will end up. I give them hell for their pleasure and for mine lol. Thanks Reciter Brae.

From the bible yes, but it just sum up what love means. For me it just brings back a nice memory. Love is a powerful word, hence why more than a few posts popped up I guess. You only have to look back in history to see that we have been the same for 100 of centuries......whether through art, poetry or literature...nice poem by the way.....we realise that we all relish being wanted by the opposite sex or same sex and we love to embrace the fact we are sexual beings. Bring on the 21st C to a more open minded view of love, relationships and sex.God now I do really sound like an art student....takes me back to uni days....:)(actually love is really Lindor Balls - dark chocolate please) ;)

I love the practicality contained in this poem and it reminds me of my mother saying "you may as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb" For God so loved the world, He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life! And Peachy what came to me here is that God din't ask the mother of the son! I like the Poem Brae, and Domina T, you are an impressive woman!

I've never considered that aspect before. That brings up some interesting moral dilemmas... Hmmm, thoughtful hugs... Mrs P

Thanks Looking2try3. Yes it is a new colour. I got bored with "dog poo brown" and had it bleached. Only problem with going blonde is that I seem to have lost some IQ points somewhere.....lol. There are no blonde jokes in my house - they are all true stories....lol. Thanks WildTassieGypsy for your lovely compliment. I rarely read fiction so usually go for history books and thats how I know about the regency period. Rather like today, some of the stricter social rules were becoming more relaxed and this made for a rather interesting time.

Another to make us think ...... has this happened to you ? Thou gav'st me leave to kiss,Thou gav'st me leave to woo;Thou mad'st me think, by thisAnd that, thou lov'st me too. But I shall ne'er forgetHow, for to make thee merryThou mad'st me chop, but yetAnother snapp'd the cherry. Robert Herrick (1591-1674)
