A picture is worth a thousand words

October 29 2013

Or so the saying goes... Sorry if this has been covered already, I did a quick search but couldn't find anything relevant.I consider myself quite a visual person, I remember things better if shown and am reasonably artistic. But when it comes to erotic material I would choose a (well written) story over a porn film or images any day. The power of words to get inside me and flick all the right switches is sometimes surprising, and I've discovered recently that writing erotic scenes has the same impact on me. Someone suggested to me that it's a 'girl thing', that guys prefer to see in explicit detail the subject material. So what do you think? Guys, does a hot story turn you on as much as seeing an image of a scene? Girls, do you prefer the written word or watching something? Before anyone jumps on me - I'm not trying to make any gender generalisations, I'm just curious if there are others like me who like to read it. And I'm not saying I'd prefer to read it than do it, only asking about different forms of media. x Me

"Before anyone jumps on me" ...No... I can't think of 'anyone' on this site who would jump on you, Me xx ...Back to the question. I love stories and much as I love visuals as my mind does a pretty good job of filling in the visuals when reading.

I love to read, get a visual in my head as well as see it, feel it, hear it too.I am a tactile person..always wanting to touch and my inquisitiveness always gets me into trouble as well as always asking questions on things if I don't understand. So both reading/watching and hands in there for me.FOXY*Just don't take me shopping, I'll drive you nuts - I have touch and smell everything!!

or so comical that I fall off the couch laughing..I love reading and writing erotica..Anais Nin,Anne Rice are two of my favourite writers.Fifty Shades of Twilight was positively banal by comparison...Men often think that they can write erotica but it usually turns out to be a phallacy..or a version of the Hokey Pokey...you know the one....The Pussy PokeyYou put your cock right in you take your cock right out,You put your cock right in and you shake it all about,You do the Pussy Pokey and you turn around,That's what it's all about.

Depends on the quality of the material... poorly written/filmed porn does nothing for me whereas well written/filmed porn does. As for a boy v girl thing, this is not quite right... it is more a left brain v right brain thing I believe.Ultimately I prefer the full 6 senses being indulged by the real thing to watching or reading:Sight - Seeing a beautiful person exposed in their radiant bliss.Hearing - The moans, groans and the whispered truths.Taste - The kiss and oral pleasure that comes with.Smell - The crisp white linen, perfume, sweat and lust.Touch - The tactile feeling of skin on skin, hair running in between my fingers and the shiver returned by the delicate stroke of the hand.Mind (mental stimulus) - The connection, the mental link and the open sharing of desire and will.No video I have ever seen and no story I have ever read can compare to the real thing.

My first experience with written erotica was "The story of O" an adaption of a film by the same name.I found it evoked some powerful emotions within me, both pleasant and unpleasant. Not only whilst reading do we see the scene set before us, we know the thoughts, feelings and desires being experienced by those in that scene . I believe this is why written erotica is more able to influence our emotional states than "visual" pornography. Sometimes visual porn has its place....handy if you want an erection realy fast :) It is hard to turn pages with a dick in one hand and your balls in another :)

This was a book first my mistake inpreviuos postStory of O (French: Histoire d'O, IPA: [istwaʁ do]) is an erotic novel published in 1954 about love, dominance and submission by French author Anne Desclos under the pen name Pauline Réage.Desclos did not reveal herself as the author for forty years after the initial publication. Desclos claims she wrote the novel as a series of love letters to her lover Jean Paulhan,[1] who had admired the work of the Marquis de Sade.

Quoting 'Freya77' I love reading and writing erotica..Anais Nin,Anne Rice are two of my favourite writers. When I was a teen I got a hold (maybe off the front of some magazine??) of a little Anais Nin book with a handful of short stories in it. Oh my goodness! It was very well read and usually kept under my pillow! I'll have to look up Anne Rice, Freya, is there something in particular of hers that I should start with?

Oh, Freya, I forgot to ask in the last post. I'd love to read some of what you've written, if you'd consider sharing it? If it was written for a specific and private audience and is not for general consumption I totally understand. Just thought I'd ask (never hurts to ask, right?) x Me.

I certainly get off on the written word, especially when it is written to me LOL   Visual is great (depending on the source - creative or artistic porn is sadly lacking), but a well written piece can invoke and evoke all that it takes for a fully immersive experience. The whole world can disappear from my reality when I am reading a good piece or book. I am there. I am living it. Unless there is a voiceover in a visual medium, all you get is sight & sound. Think back to when you last smelt the aroma from the nape of your lovers neck. Already you are immersed with the experience and all it encompassed at the time. I don't think that happens with visual mediums.   @him_and_me, no one has jumped on you yet   @Freya. Anne Rice hey? I didn't read books until I picked up one of hers, then another, then another, and another.....

As kids most boys come across porn (print in my day) pretty easily, but I remember it was the first chapter of a book called Opus Pistorum by Henry Miller (he denied writing it) that actually got me deeply aroused. Y'know my first "epiphany stiffy". But also as an adolescent it was the foreign movies on SBS that kept me..ahem..up at night. Existentialism and eroticism how worldly. I was never really hugely turned on by porn. I haven't changed much, I still get stirred up more by relatable, introspective eroticism than mainstream porn. Even memories of a great lady or encounter hits deeper than watching paid, soulless actors fuck like Nazis.I also used to draw sex scenes as a kid but for some reason (you know why) I never seemed to finish them. Apparently Picasso masturbated over his erotic work as well. So there!!Imagination is a sex organ too.

I really love a well written erotic story any day, basically to get my juicy thoughts into gear. Now having said that, I enjoy a persons profile to contain pictures, and perhaps i'll even engage in the odd Webcam chat, While I'm not keen on outright smutty chat or messages(mail), I'll always give a potential suitor/date more attention if they can use some creativity while writing (their own erotic story of ;how they wish to meet me, a fantasy they may have-that we may have chatted about etc...The above goes a long way better than the usual I've seen in the past such as :" Hey baby you are hot, sexy legs and ass, i'd love to F***you or watch you play with your C***** on webcam"...this is just gross..Try sending some erotic writing next time, with one or two pics (body shots are good, head shots are ok, Dick pics should be left in a private album-you may give us access but its our choice to view it..By the way I am a (trans) woman, and while i may understand a few angles from both sides of the fence, I'm sorry my allegiance is with the girls....Always and forever..xoxo

Men tend to be more visual then women... It depends on my mood! A good erotic story can be incredible - but in the right mood a good porn does the trick too x

I want both. I like to see a good picture that turns me on...but it has to be real, not some professionally made up scene. The same goes for words...tell me about your adventures that really turns me on. One of my favorite sites is wifelovers. I rarely look at the pictures there but I love to read the stories/letters sent in about couples, men and women meeting someone and hooking up.

So there's a point... Is it hotter reading something that you (or a version of you, nothing wrong with a bit of poetic licence) play a starring role in? And for those that write... Are your stories based on personal experiences or more from the wet and inviting depths of your imagination? Are they about you and your lover? Or fictitious characters? For me so far it's been a bit of both. Stories are based on (limited) experience but I find myself adding details that I haven't yet experienced or in some cases ever even thought of until that moment in time. It's been fun to watch it unfolding. And yes - still waiting for someone (anyone?) to jump on Me..... ;)
