A diary for old age

October 20 2024

Suppose one has an eventful life (in the contest of this site and the reasons we exist here) and creates a wonderfully rich pool of memories that can be recounted when relevant or just to be enjoyed individually later in life.

With dementia and Alzheimer's a genuine possibility, does keeping a sordid, candid, blow by blow account of one's partners, experiences, memories have value?

I imagine reading my book at a time when memory has failed me and remarking "Fark, I did that!?!" to my bemused peers at the hospital or place my kids put me to keep me out of the way.

Does anyone keep a rich diary of such events and experiences and if so, how detailed?

Mine is quite detailed and specific.

I wish we did. We've written up some detailed stories from our early entrance into this space 3+ years ago.

And kept track for a while of the (to us at the time) crazy things we were doing.

But alas, we've not kept up with it. If I had the budget, I'd employ a writer to accompany us on all adventures 😍

Being on the cusp of old age (my story & I'm sticking to it) I'm more interested in creating new memories than recording them, besides they're no one else's business apart' myself and my partners.

NO! I could write a book and be an Anonymous author tho. Lolz
IMO: Sometimes, The Best kept secrets are never shared.
I have got a "A Go clean out my bedside drawer" friend, that if something was to happen to me, it's cleaned out like CSI clean up crew. The last thing I want is my daughter coming across things that might tramutize her for the rest of her life!

    I also have such a diary… it’s called the RHP Forums. 😊

It’s like a porno version of The Notebook!!
I’d love a sordid story with all my shenanigans set out in colourful detail. I can imagine the horror on everyone’s faces when they find my diary and read about that one time, while the kids were at band camp … “she did what?? She put that up a guy’s bottom and sat on the other end of it and …”😂😂
What a fabulous way to be remembered xx

Not everyone is skilled at writing things good. 😂

I have a journal that records my Facebook and instagram posts automatically. Not so much my RHP posts. As for notches on the bedpost I think one of those click counters could be handy for RHP events!

I do from time to time but they mostly exist as stories written in alternative ways. I post them on other platforms.

I figure if I get Alzheimer's I won't remember the sentence before the one I read

Especially appealing for times when life gets in the way of building new sexy experiences 🥲

I’m not sure I’d want to share these memories. Something precious about some secrets only ever being my own

    If one does get Alzheimer's
    1. would one remember where they even put the book?
    2. Can one still read?
    3. What would one do with the book? Story time in the nursing home?
