"Like most girls on here my partner is spoiled for choice when it comes to finding single guys. The odds around here are well in her favour. This gives her the ability to be very superficial. | Ask Sam: Risk vs Fear |
Question: I'm trying to evaluate STD risks rather than reacting in a knee-jerk way to alarmist media headlines. What is a meaningful expression of risk when you are in a low risk category (middle class, Caucasian, long term married, healthy) to ostensibly high risk activities such as unprotected sex with others in a similar circumstance ? Safe sex is widely encouraged within the swinging community, however we are amazed to find time and again the rejection of safe sex practices by those who seem thoroughly reasonable, professional people. Are we, and most others like us in a low risk category, wildly overestimating the actual risks. The "precautionary principle" just isn't compelling enough in the heat of the moment?
