Can you help choosing new mobile phone provider, please?

I've been with Virgin since I lost my mobile phone virginity, they had the best long term value! Now Optus is phasing Virgin out and I have to choose a new provider. Sigh...
Anyway, I barely use my mobile as a phone, lol and had been topping up for 6 month periods for the cheapskate price of $19. I was adding a small $5, 28 day mobile data top-up now and then.

Is there anything comparable or the closest to that anyone can recommend, please? Or any particular provider I should avoid no matter how good their deals are? I'd really appreciate the help. Thank you, Peachy

If you were happy with Virgin, you'd be happy with anyone.

They are at the bottom of the pile. Cheaper but no price is good when it doesn't work. Throw in shit customer service..1 star out of 5..

I'm with Telstra, not cheap but it works when l want it. I'm on a big plan with 160 g of data with a leased 5g phone. 4.5 stars out of 5

If you buy the plan outright for a year its very cheap. $12 for 30 days if you don't need much data

Boost mobile. I switched from Telstra just recently and am saving more than $60 a month. They're only the Telstra network BUT no 5g. I've found coverage to be just fine though, only slight differences from Telstra in one or two areas.

LOL! I did say I was a virgin when I began with them, so I've never experienced any different. It has worked fine for my needs which were and are still few and why I refuse to pay what I can't afford for what is a luxury for me. We still have a landline and I don't get out much, lol. Hopefully someone will be able to help with what I'm after. Peachy

Essentially Australia has 3 mobile carriers, being Telstra, Optus & Vodafone.
Each of these Carriers wholesales their product to resellers.

If you find cheap deals, Kogan, Boost etc, have a look in fine print and see who’s network it is, it’s listed just hard to find.

Telstra network is good, you do pay for it, but had very good rural coverage, so if you want Telstra, have a look at Boost or Aldi as well I believe

Optus have caught up a long way to Telstra over the last few years, if you in metro mostly and or smaller Towns on coast etc this a cost effective.

Vodafone, still a long was behind, however if you don’t leave metro is fine. Kogan off some grea deals on the visa network

Remember if you sign up and it doesn’t work in an area your in contact the carrier, they will let you off your contract as long you. Can justify why you can’t stay.

Either way we are well serviced here in Australia,

I’m with Optus and travel a lot to coastal regional towns and have very limited issues

And thank you Sunnysidedown. The deal I'm looking at involves no contract, starts with $10 for 365 days with the chance to add that $10 data pack if I ever leave the house again, perfect.

Whatever you do, stay away from Vodafail (aka Vodafone). They have never had a good reputation, and are still nowhere up to scratch compared to the others. System goes down too often, billing is crap, customer service not the best....

Depends where you live and where you travel. In the country often Telstra will have service where Optus doesn't and vice versa.

Definitely no to Vodaphone.

I’m with Optus on a package and have been for years now, service is reliable as any, support is generally pretty good.

I hate Telstra with a passion.

Great coverage (telstra) simple, cheap, great options, unlimited calls and texts, plenty of data
