Watch Viral video “Be a Lady they Said”
If you haven’t already seen Cynthia Nixon’s narrating “Be a Lady, They said!” yet, watch it now. This powerful video has been viewed over two million times and has been shared countless times since its release.
Nixon reads a list of contradicting messages that women often hear throughout their lives. Her words are coupled with imagery from movies, tabloids, TV shows and advertisements to deliver a powerful message.
Further into the video, she continues to read more contradicting messages...
“Don’t be too fat. Don’t be too thin. Eat up, slim down. Stop eating so much. Order a salad, don’t eat carbs. God, you look like a skeleton!”
A large majority of women would sadly agree that they have heard these messages countless of times. These kind of messages have been ingrained in our culture for thousand of years, shaping women, and continue to shape and mould young women. They can quite often be the cause of many women's lack of self-esteem, self-doubt and the cause of much needless anxiety.
This video shines a light on the immense pressure women face every day.

I loved this so much. It expresses every frustration I've ever felt about being a woman. Thank goodness for rhp - full sexual expression in a judgement-free environment!

The expectations for us to be a particular way, feel, act, and perform, is so contrived.
