Boys like Girls

Boys Like Girls? Really… that’s what you’re going to call your band? Ok, well forgetting that these kids have slapped the naffest name in history on their music let’s break things down on the sonic front.

The music is naff too. Sure that may be over simplifying things a little but this major label debut from the Massachusetts four-piece is a wholly unoriginal reference to everything that was cool three years ago.

Most genres bloat out before the two or three truly talented champions get down to business as the also-rans die off; so can we please give My Chemical Romance, Fallout Boy and Panic at the Disco the golden handshake and save ourselves the trauma of trying to invest in these plastic knockoffs.

Apart from a few passable ideas such as Hero/Heroine there is very little nourishment to be found on the self-titled release. The fact that the band has big-time production shimmering throughout this record really only serves to point out that there is nothing beneath the oh-so-shiny surface.

With the new Panic at the Disco on shelves, I’d just go for the OG and give the generic brand version a miss.
